As for repairs well u take ur chances with any car mines a td5 had it from new looked after never broke down and will go anywhere a ranger/ hilux will but with a full load and chipper / trailer on the back the back .anything else is just an imitation. Sure they aren't the comfiest but u aint sat in it all day unless u get stuck behind a ranger on a green lane.

I've run two transits in the past and currently run a landrover 130, 6 ton iveco and 3.5 ton Isuzu grafter.

IMO

The LR130 is too small for most arb jobs, many disagree. It can tow 3.5 ton which is good and 4x4 is invaluable if required. Turning circle is SHOCKING! Not my favourite to drive when loaded and pulling a big trailer, it will stop just. Very cramped in the cab.

The 6 ton iveco is great, carries a decent load. The main issue is the driving licence, its Ok if your an old fart. You also require O licence. On you pre 97 licence you can tow 2.25 tons.

The Grafter, not had long but so far impressed, it is a proper truck can tow 3.5 tons carries a load well. Lots of room but potential to overload it. Amazing turning circle! Will pull a big trailer fully loaded and stop and start, loads of space in cab.

Transits are OK, easy to overload and struggle with a big trailer.

I run two crewcab transits, one with a 9 CBM chip box, and the other is a plain drop side tipper.

Perfect for most situations.

In an ideal world the drop side would be a single cab tipper c/w tail lift.

Looking to the future I'm thinking that a 7.5 tonner equipped with ro-ro skips might be better. The variation in body types would only be limited by the available storage space.

Couple of chip boxes, dump body for aggregates/logs, flat body with pins for cord, the list goes on.

Unfortunately there isn't one truck that'll do everything.

A 4x4 is essential for any offroad work, suits the image, but your limited for space.

A transit type 3.5 tonner, is good for space, but really crap off road.

A 4x4 3.5 tonner would be good, but very rare, and very expensive.
