Any one got any good Tirfor winch tips?

I bought myself a t532 tirfor with a 25m cable as crimbo present. Ive used it a couple of times on straight pulls for skidding wood up a steep bank and pulling over a couple of stems apart from that im a complete novice. Im pretty keen to learn the art of winchcraft and use it as efficiently as possible so any tips would gratefully accepted.

 

My tip is to save time coiling up cable at end of job use an old scrambler tyre and feed cable into inside of it. Keeps tings nice and tidy!

HI TREE how fast is tirfor winch so if you had a pull 10mts how long would that take as it by hand thanks jon

I've got a 6ft metal corkscrew made of inch thick steel, I can twist it into the ground and hey-presto, I've got an instant ground anchor. My other tip is wearing THICK gloves with those pesky steel cables, have had a few nasty slices from sharp loose threads.

6ft cork screw anchor were used by electric board to hold poles up when dropping wires. Not much good for horizontal pulls but good for vertical.

Jon, will try and take a photo this week if I get a moment. And yes, not the most ideal for horizontal pulls, mine has bent a little now, and wouldn't want to overdo it and pull it clean out of the ground, but has been a lifesaver at times when I've had nothing else I could possibly winch from.
