Price of oak

Ok collective brain, this is the situation.

I have a collection of felled woodland oak that a prospective buyer has looked over and marked as to what he wants.

I can work out the hoppus feet for the logs, but what's the going rate for woodland grown english oak at roadside ie £ per Hft?

Depends a bit on diameter and length. Assume they are clean with a nice 20' length, 2'6" dbh then around £6/Hoppus ft, if they are smaller (say 18" dbh) or shorter lengths that won't make a couple of nice 8'-10' sections then down to around £4/Hoppus ft. Shouldn't be below that if woodland grown as there shouldn't be excessive sapwood or knots.

Cheers, for that. Buyers preference is 9-10' lengths. Range of sizes up to about 25-28" dia. mid log. If it makes a difference is cumbrian oak from the the heart of the Lake District. Puts £40K on house prices, wonder what it does to timber values 😜

Its an under bark measurement of volume. Accounts for sawmill waste etc..

 

As for prices anywhere between £3-9 a hoppus. All comes down to quality at the end of the day. If you've got something special then it will be worth more with Oak you really take a chance buying standing.

I sold a nearly three arctic loads in August, I forget how much per cube, but for easy reckoning it was £87.50 per ton.

£90 a ton works out at just over £3 per Hft. Any good stuff in the wagon loads Skyhuck?

Yes some was very good, some pretty shook, but that was by far the best offer I had been given. The fire wood boys were not that keen and the best other offer for milling was £60 per ton.

 

PS. I had to pay the haulage.
