Nice experience Drew, Im in NZ at the moment and find it demoralising how the kauri were clear felled. To give others an idea of how long it will take to replace them these are recent photos taken in Nelson NZ. Both photos are same tree.

yep, its an external mic.

the epiphytes, mosses, lichens, orchids etc are amazing. at about 20m the garden was bigenough for 4 or 5 people to stand in. we located another possible 50m kauri and confirmed it with lidar- aiming to go back early jan to climb and measure.

Its an absolute pleasure to be able to climb these magnificent specimens

Hey Drew , beautiful pics bro, did u have to get a grant to climb the kauri? i know paul kenny used to do it up waipoua regularly but with the threat of kdd its becoming harder.

seeing these pics really makes me a little homesick, the podocarp and kauri forests of nz just can't be described to people with words.

cheers for posting.

This is all on public land and being done with a scientist to measure the mass of the kauri. All steps are taken to ensure to tracking in of phytpohera with boots sterilized before reaching the root plate of any kauri. - there is a walking track metres from this one. I firmly believe the public has to be shown how amazing these trees are to secure funding to save them. Locking them away will not save them. Pigs and trampers are spreading the disease irrespective in my opinion. Yeah, it's an absolutely beautiful spot. Cheers

Good work - have been over a few times and visited the Kauri museum - a pretty sad story - even more important to save what's left.
