As above I believe it to be a western red cedar do correct me if I am wrong....

The customer would like to keep it but is worried about it as its in the kids play area. Splits about 10ft from the ground into about 5 stems and one of them has been hit by lighting in the past we think. The trunk sounds very hollow most of the way up and the top 20ft is split to bugery. I have never cable braced before but I was going to suggest to reduce the tree but about 30ft ( all stems that is) and brace the remaining tree? the tree stands at about 70ft at the moment.

What do you guys think?

Personally, given the high risk targets i'd recommend removal and plant something different. However that's just going off of a photo which is never the best thing to do.

I would probably say the same but this is only part of the tree and there are another 4 healthy stems, and they really don't want to lose the tree. Which is good in some respects instead of your normal person just saying "cut it down"
