A top tip, which 80% of the competitors forget is ............

Don't drink more than 6 pints the night before!!!

Work climb is usually 5-7 minutes, thats all! You should be ok, and then there is always a wait till the next event.

climbing 90ft trees is ok, its the rope pulls that knacker you out! is it the redwood at guildford? at the risk of causing an arguement, as maybe i just dont understand the concept, but that is an unsuitable tree IMO for a speed climb. thats more of a "rope pull" than anything else.

On the contrary Rupe, it does allow you to excuse lameness... A technique which has been working well for me since 2005!

Frank, for most of us middle of the range (slipping downhill) kind of chaps, its only a chance to beat last years scores. Give it a shot!

Can anyone explain in Leymans terms, the actual disciplines, I.e what goes into a speed climb. I get the work climb, ringing bells thingy. Can anyone break the 5 events down???

Speed climb= You are belayed so you just climb the tree following the belay line up to a bell at the top. Everyone climbs the same route. There may be some rope climbing if there is a gap between branches. Fastest time wins.

Rescue= climb tree and rescue dummy. Usualy 5 minutes allowed, no points for time , but points for how safely and effectively you carry out the entire job.

Throwline = 6 minutes to score in two out six targets already in the tree. Higher points for higher targets, extra point for puttign rope in aswell. Max 20 points for top two targets plus ropes put in (ropes/throwlines must be parallel to score i.e no branches in between so you could actually ascend) Winner is the highest scorer or the fastest to the highest score.

Footlock. 50 foot to bell, fastest wins.

Workclimb, is actually the most important and has the most amount of points available, speed, safety, style and achievign goals are all important.

Thats as simple as i can make it. You can download the rules for full information.
