How much would you sell kiln dried split oak logs in crates (outside dimensions - 800x1150x2000mm), log length 25cm, moisture 20%

Assuming the crates are stacked, rather than loose, you have 1.6 cubic metres (which equates to just a touch over 2 cubic metres stacked).

I'd aim for around £220 for that. It's daft money, but that seems to be the going rate.

Thanks Jonathan that's the sort of figure I had in mind.

Punters don't want over hyped/priced firewood they just want cheap. I'm selling bags of Alder, Poplar with Leylandii mixed in, had no complaints just more orders for my cheap mix bags @ £25 a pop.

There is place for both tesco value and waitrose finest on the highstreet, I know what I'd rather have.

I suppose its 40% moisture too, cowboy firewood sellers like you are ruining this game. Chop it up today, sell it to some naive customer tomorrow. Its ok to sell unseasoned in May, June, July but not when you know they need it to use straight away. Leylandii ffs. :laugh1:

Selling unseasoned at any time of the year is perfectly acceptable so long as you make it very clear that it is unseasoned. The nature of selling sawmill offcuts is that they are cut off the saw logs, processed into firewood and sold as soon as possible to clear space. My timber is rarely fully air dried but this is always made very clear.

It's quite bad form to assume things like you are doing in the above post in my opinion.

So he/she sells cheap logs, of species that many people see as inferior, but how is that any different from selling B&Q brand chainsaws? Yes it's cheap, and it may or may not be of a lesser quality but that doesn't make it wrong to sell the product does it?

I'd imagine Waitrose are happy to have the likes of tescos value to compete with, it makes the contrast starker.

Same thing with logs, if you intend to sell a premium product for a premium price, you'll do better if the customer has tried an inferior product first/as well.
