How builder bags out of a cord of round wood ?

 

Can somebody check my maths ?

 

Cord 4ft x 4ft x 8ft

Builderbag 850x850x850 (0.6m3)

 

1 cord = 3.63m3 solid

1 cord = 3.63m3 solid or 5.8m3 loose (based on 1m3 solid = 1.6m3 loose)

 

So 5.8m3 loose = 9 or 10 builderbags (0.6m3)

 

Please can someone point out any errors or give a better estimate

 

Also is one cord softwood wet around 2.6tons ?

Someone told me an artic full is about 45 to 50 cube when split . Near enough for me ..

the best way to find out is to buy a load split it,bag, then count the bags hey presto ,the amswer is there

A crod of wood takes up 3.63m3 but it only contains say 2.4m3 of wood. The rest is spaces. This will bulk out if split and thrown in a bag to about 4.3m3. This would equate to about 7 and a bit builders bags.

 

Answer to second question, it depends on the species. Density varies from say 830kg/m3 for Japanese Larch to 1020kg/m3 for Scots Pine.

 

A 3.63m3 block of the first would weigh 3.0 tonnes. A 3.63m3 block of the latter would weigh 3.7 tonnes. But a cord of wood is 1/3 space between logs. So you can say a cord of the former is 2.0 tonnes and of the latter is 2.5 tonnes.

I have been supplying cord wood for a few years now and the people I supply to reckon to get about 3 bulk bags to 1m3 of cord wood timber.
