As I said, not having a dig mate, I've been there, you just want to get done and go home :001_smile:

But we often find fault with the plod, but if we don't give the info they need we can't complain when they don't succeed.

Yeah no probs Huck . I really can see where your coming from . Just like you said , all I wanted to do was get home unload and sit by the fire . Plod is first thing tomorrow am . Strange really as I have seen this transit about locally but now I have a face to go with it and the reg plate . Hope the phone call will help somebody else out .

Yes Skyhuck I should of phoned the police although it was raining and its Sunday . No excuse but I just had enough for one day after that confrontation 001_smile: I am normally so switched on . Probably working Sunday in the rain didn't help ?

Unfortunately I dont think they will be in the slightest bit interested. Even if they cleaned you out it would take 3 days to send an office plod and that would just be to keep you quiet.

This has not been my recent experience, I had three saw stollen from site last week, OK they did not get there that day, but were there 10AM the following morning and seemed pretty keen to do what they could, wanting serial No's etc.

good to hear I think it depends on area and if they have a rise in this sort of theft and need to stamp on it. Often its a crime no so you can claim on your insurance.

You all have camera phones ?. Just film them and snap every suspicious number plate. Also rear cams for vans are cheap now buy one and everyone who pulls behind you is on film ?.

Also buy the cable lock alarms, you can get 5 meter ones and lock all tools to the truck, if they try a loud alarm starts :D.

Failing that buy some form of projectile and call it ratting :D

The police are really up against it in trying to catch the scum that nick your kit, where do they start if theres no fingerprint/dna/witnesses,its down to us at the end of the day to make sure they cant take them. I had a load of gear nicked a few years ago, then went out and invested in alarms, beefed up padlocks etc, I should of done it before the breakin.

Totally agree, especially with the first and second parts, third bit, hmmm ;) After my workshop got turned over, I realised I'd been watched for weeks, certain vehicles had been pulling over and using the phone, opposite. These vehicles didn't show up again after. So I recorded other vehicles that stopped, notably a. Merc estate car and a white panel van. I took reg nos and checked them on autotrader website. They didn't exist, on there anyway, so I passed details to the police turned out they were both on false plates, unlicensed drivers with no insurance, so I guess they were up to no good. I apologised to the cop who came out in case he thought I was being paranoid, he assured me that both vehicles were undoubtedly about to be used for further crimes.

Cable alarms, I use them everywhere I work, only takes seconds and means you can actually take your eyes off your kit. Prevention is so much easier than risking the loss. Talking to a chap the other day, he was moaning his card got cloned at a local supermarket cash machine, and blamed the supermarket, the fact that it was common knowledge about the cloning, signs warned of the crime, and he still used his card in that machine because he need the money out didn't cross his mind to actually take responsibility for his own actions too. I despair.

I do rate them, if someone cuts the cable, the alarm goes off, warning you. It's not unbeatable, but reduces the chance of a snatch and grab crime, esp onsite. I have three of various quality, ranging from £15-£20, and to date since using them nothing has left site that was alarmed. I wouldn't recommend any particular brand, anything is better than nothing and has to suit your pocket too. So I takes a few seconds extra to lock stuff down, but that's better than turning around and kits gone missing.
