How many people on here have completed a first aid training course? I was looking at the pics of tomDs beech dissmantle (nice job by the way) and a lot of members seemed shocked by the pictures of rings being ripped off fingers etc!

If anyone hasnt been on a course id really recommend you do, never know when you may need to use the skills you learn (hopefully never)....

These courses are'nt as expensive as you think. I did my training with ABC responce. They made the info really easy to take in and learn. The teaching aids are good loads of gory pics, fake limbs/blood etc. :scared1::scared1:You are put in scenarios and encouraged to take part and dress wounds etc.

well recomended.........................:001_smile:

I have been a First Aider at work for at least 10 years now, Once you've pasted its only retraining every 3 years. As John says it good practice to have at least one qualified first aider on site these days, and Preferably not the one up the tree.

Mine has well lapsed but its something I dont seem to get round to doing :blushing:

The course I did was a one day training, is that enough or do you need to have at least one person on the 5 day course?

What does the 5 day consist of?

Any rough ideas on cost?

Soz for all the questions but something I really need to get off my arse and sort out.

three of us done nominated person training two other first aiders as well pluss refreshers when needed

i think everyone should be trained

then you wouldn't need to worry if you have a first aider or not

and its not that big an expence for the benifit it could be.

I have done a 5 day course, a couple of years ago now. I am now of the opinion that it would be better to put several staff through a one day course than have one person with the 5 day. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I wont be doing another 5 day, just one day refreshers every now and again.

Personally, i think the way forward is to get a trainer in for one day every year, to train all the staff in one go. I find you retain a lot of info for about 3 months, then you start to loose it from there. Three years is far too long between refreshers.

The reason you dont need lots of in depth training, imo, is that most of the training is centred around casualty care for however long it is until the ambulance arrives. There really isnt much point learning how to set broken bones ect as you are never going to need to do it. Unless of course you are going to work in a wilderness out of reach of air ambulance, in which case you should probably undertake some specialist training beforehand.
