Wood Chip in Biodigester

it would be really cool if there was some way of sorting out the leaves for the AD and keeping the chips for biomass boilers

 

I guess an air classifier will do this but most trees only have leaves half the time so I doubt it would be worthwhile, the good thing about wood is that you can store it in the round and it's heat value goes up as it dries, other crops are more difficult to conserve because they are more digestible.

I bumped into the farmer in the pub and asked him. As mentioned above, the answer was no, he is changing his animal bed from shavings as wood takes too long to break down. However he is thinking of drying chip with the excess heat.

I recon a steam chipper that burns the chip to power its self would be cool imagine having s bucket of ash from a days chipping and no fuel bill.

 

you wouldnt be oveweight with a months worth of "chippings" in the box, till they weighed the seam engine:001_smile:
