Hi, can anyone give me some advice on getting to australia to work, I have CS30,31,38,39 MEWP and chipper. I worked as a groundsman for 2 years before getting my qualifications to climb and have been climbing for about 6 months now, any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. There was talk in one of the other forums that if you are over 30 then it becomes a problem. Is that so? I am starting to hunt for work in Adelaide (moving from UK). So far not a lot of response, just wondering if my 32 years of age are going against me. I don't have a lot of experience in the trade, although I do have the relevant tickets, and I am super keen to learn and progress in the trade.

Any advice would be a great help... :001_smile:

Get a working holiday visa which allows you 1-2 years in oz to travel and work. Then approsch companies once your there. Take your NPTC cards with you. I approached Active Tree Serviceswho gave me a job straight away. They are the biggest line ckearance contractors in oz. They also do domestic. I got a job straight away. They like Brit climbers / workers because we know how to work.

Dont bother trying to get a job while your in Europe. Its a nightmare and to much red tape. Just go there. A few guys i worked with in England did the same. One got a job in Darwin, climbing for a year earning about 40 dollars an hour and tge other in Sydney

Australian here. I don't know anything about the visas and so on, but I have been working in the tree industry for enough time to know about that side of it.

If you go on facebook, like the page of QAA (Qld Arboriculture Association) or one of the climbers groups and ask for a job. If you just want a job as a groundie it shouldn't be too hard. If you want a job as a climber they'll want to know what you can do.

Like someone said, being here helps. It tells them you aren't dreaming about coming to Australia to work in the industry. Um, you do realise how big our gum trees are, hey? :001_cool:
