well I have to say that the colleges are churning out "qualified" chainsaw operators at an alarming rate:scared1:

do these guys really get jobs or do they just go with cs30 cs31 to work in other industrys.?

Everyone is a tree surgeon now.....what happened to the tree cutters?:confused1::confused1:

I know people who operate day to day who don't know or won't (you decide) rake and tidy up properly. I operate to an anal leafless perfection when tidying up. Usually we leave a property tidier than we found it.

As to college leavers being green, they must be competent to be passed, this does not mean they are good but that comes with experience and we all started somewhere!

We had one lad come do a day with us , he had "lead climber" on his CV ....turns out he'd never used a rake :0

Why is it expected a climber should have a rake ticket?

In my book, boss shouts and pays bills, climber climbs and kills tree, brash rat drags brash and rakes.

Where's the confusion?

Long story cut short .. I says to the lad ... Spike up that there silver birch and put a felling rope in ...he starts shaking and says we can put it in with a throw line... In that case mate it will b a pice of piss to climb..three trees on the deck and throu the chipper he's still struggling with a prusik... Hence the rake coment

Haha, don't take me too seriously mate!

I know exactly where you are coming from, had enough of them like it. Guess I'm lucky now having a top crew where everyone mucks in, has a laugh and goes home knowing they've earned their coin and pulled their weight.

Take most of what I say tongue in cheek, there's usually some sense behind what I'm saying, it's usually the guys who are used to my sense of humour who can tell I'm on a wind:thumbup:
