Sitting on Quotes..

I allways put valid for 30 days on mine...have had clients come back upto a year later and then i have made a descion based on the job.

Does a quote bind you in law to do that work for that price? On some quotes I did 3-4 years ago, I'd probably lose now just on the increase in fuel over that time, so I wouldn't really want to honour them.

Could you put an expiry date on any future quotes.

"This quotation is valid for 3 months" that type of thing, this should help with those that drag their heels and get the jobs in quicker:sneaky2:

My understanding with quotes and I may well wrong that unless it has been signed off by both parties then it isnt a written agrement. Even if you win the job you dont have to do it unless you have entered a written contract with terms and conditions etc.

 

We have 90 days on our quotes although atm they would probably get a cheaper price than if I had priced it up 12 months ago

Yes, if it went to court, they'd have to show that the quote amounted to an offer, which wouldn't necessarily be true. I might start putting words to that effect on my quotes-something saying that the quote is not meant as an offer in law.

Good point, how does it stand when something is living and growing. The years go on, the job gets bigger. I have always noted of quotation valid for 90 days. Alot can happen in the world in 3 months.
