Friend of mine has a Lasco and a Posch 30 ton splitter.

He finds the Lasco easier and faster to use, he attaches it to the end of a 3 ton excavator and breaks timber down to processor size. Especially handy for pop that looses it bark easily, the barks then stays on site.

GDC have a bigger version of the one below on a 20 ton excavator. it would romp through that pile in a morning. It would be the logistics that kill using it on a small amount of timber. The good thing about the pincer type cracker is it doubles up as a grab making light work of splitting and restacking. It makes the screw type splitters look painfully slow.

When we were camping near Swadlincotes I was watching a woodyard splitting and stacking with a grab and some of the trunks and butts they were cracking were big stuff like 4 feet across. Entertainment at it's best :D

Thanks for the replies, think I'll look into the woodcracker type splitters. Have access to a 14t digger and taken in a few more loads of large stuff so need to speed up the whole process from log to split firewood.
