Chipper engine/carb dilema!

the chinese engines are ok they dont have the build quality of a honda, treat them as a disposable engine we had a 13hp in our chipper and it was faultless the only bits that went wrong were the bits that were our fault

Have you thought about fitting a carb from a different machine on there, I take it that both cylinders suck through the same inlet, as they will.

I am running an old Solex carb on a v twin Harley bike at the moment, just to keep it going whilst I sort parts, & it might well stay on there, running fine after a simple jet change guided by spark plug reading.

If you can make fit, look at any carb suited to the inlet manifold, even with a rubber boot to get it on there, some of the stump grinder motors with a kholer engine use a carb that might do the job, & they will have a rev regulating system that might be possible to link up.

Some of the old rev regulating stuff was just a butterfly & spring set up, easy enough to sort for not much more than a bit of time & fiddling, some was a lever on the outside of the engine block controlled internally by a centrifugal spring weight, with a connection to the carb through a set spring.

If you can see how the motor is governed to prevent it from over revving , it should be possible to set it up I would imagine.

The 1186 E1 has carb part number 809019 which is, as you say, obsolete.

 

I have emailed Briggs , and there is an alternative carb available to replace 809019, but it is £169.25 plus vat.
