log grabs will dig more dirt, you will get less with brash grab but this will not be completely clean if feeding chipper brash grab will be better/ cleaner, in my experience you will always get some dirt or worse! when feeding chipper with crane, some are less rounded and hold less timber check out the capacity and compare, saw these at elmia this year, good luck

Just out of interest what sort of through put are some of the bigger chippers getting through

I managed three and a half artics full in the day which I guess is about 80 to 90 tonnes if wet

Without the soil issue I think I could of managed the extra half load

yea its a heizohack 8-400 with a valtra t 170 chipped with 176bhp at 1500 at the shaft , feeding with a jcb 803 (vintage) with the smaller botex grab fitted

thanks, I just had my pile chipped on Monday(similar outfit), 150 cu m of chip but quite a bit of that was on the brash pile so output was bound to be lower.

I stack my woodpile on railway sleepers to keep the dirt out but I could see some turf getting in from the brash, difficult to avoid.

Which part of the country do you operate?
