Ah . Now I see . Do you think its growing off the roots ?

Yea I do but I don't know much about fungi so i can't back that up with any reason why!!

Looks to be Phaeolus schweinitzii causing a brown rot of the roots.

I'm slightly confused (easily done!), is the fungi attached to the ground in the pic, or just found laying loose at the base of the tree?

Cheers David, any ideas about how it affects the tree if it does??

 

Sorry stubby it's attached to the ground so I thought it may be damaging the roots
