Rec Climbing Harness: Petzl Sequoia SRT

Hi guys

 

Am sure this question has probably been asked before, but couldn't seem to find a thread which properly answered my question! Basically I am looking to buy a new harness, mainly for rec climbing on the weekends and have been looking at the Petzl Sequoia (have also been looking at the Tree Motion but not sure I can justify the price for weekend rec climbing!) Anyway although I am currently climbing DdRT I am keen to explore SRT in the near future and was wondering whether it would be worth buying the Petzl Sequoia SRT version? Will this work ok with DdRT as well? The only difference I can see from the standard Sequoia is that the SRT version has attachment points for a chest harness, but is there more to it than this?

 

Any advice appreciated

I climb in a Sequoia SRT, the only other difference I would cite is, because of the additional attachment point, it doesn't have a click buckle on the waist.

A word of caution would be that it isn't as supportive as some of the other harnesses; I chose this harness because I'm small and the likes of the Tree motion came too far up my lower back.

If you could get a chance to try one before buying, you would be in a better position to make an personally-informed choice.

Yes, go for it, I use one for when I am using srt and also for double rope and its ideal! I use a tree motion for uk arb work when I know I wont be putting a chest harness on.

Hey Tom, hope you're well. As you know, I have both a standard Sequoia and the Sequoia SRT with the top. In terms of DdRT climbing, there's nothing between them, function wise.

 

As has been said, the waist attachment is different, my personal preference being the double pull SRT one, as I found that the F.A.S.T on the standard had a bit of memory that it always pulls back to the same point.

 

If I was buying again, I'd go for the SRT version. As you may have seen, I usually now wear the top when climbing with anything bigger than a 200t, as I find it so much more comfortable having the saw weight in your shoulders rather than trying to pull your harness down (infuriating on a standard with a memory in the waist band that is too loose!).

 

Soooo, to sum up, get the SRT version, enabling you to have the option of adding the top in future if you need it.

 

Ps. Top, not top croll, the integrated croll is pointless with the advent of SRTWP IMO.
