It's a discussion forum for tree surgeons, we're discussing tree surgery/felling etc, it's all good, you just concentrate on your foie gras and herb infused escargot or whatever it is you like consuming these days

Touche touche :D:laugh1:

personally i think that climbing and dismantling a mature tree in a location that felling is possible would simply not be cost effective takes far longer to dismantle a tree of this size as opposed to breaking down the crown of a felled tree and being able to use any machinery to assist with the lifting/shifting and chipping of a tree this size . Also the client can often question costs and practices if they are well versed in bringing in contractors for site clearance jobs .

Its almost like asking me why we are clear felling mature western hemlock and snedding them out on the floor when we could climb and strip them out to poles and then fell them or even better section them down in sawlog lengths !! quite simply the easier question is to answer why you wouldn't do such a thing !!!

in a nutshell Huck it was a decent size tree felled nicely . Just out of interest how long did it take to break down chip and move the timber ?

No chipping, it was stripped out using my crane with grab and a tractor with loader grab, all brash burned, timber stacked, took around 3 hours.

Ahhh i see , very nice job , so it would be fair to say that at very least it took half the time it would have taken to climb and dismantle ??

Do you have any more pics of the job , how do you find your crane works with a grab on ? im guessing that because its a hiab it must be a bit slower than a conventional timber crane/ roof mount ??

Out of pure interest. Have you ever done any tree work, felling etc?

Well you'd obviously like to think not. So you must be an expert!! I asked a very simple question. Scotspine seems to have covered it.

But please if you are the most knowledgable man I've ever come across and best tree Surgeoun please come and try and keep up with us in the woods one day :thumbup1:

That's not meant to be sarcastic. Genuine offer,
