thats ace mate,:001_smile:

is the wood on yew bad for you?:scared1:

sure is, dont know the exact science but you dont want a big lung fool. i met an old boy years ago on holiday, when he retired he bought an electric planer, went up his loft and got stuck into a piece of yew, straight to hospital, he walked with sticks and could hardky talk for lack of breath. i read it was in the resin. alkaloid taxil comes to mind, but i am rubbish with latin stuff. when i cut it with the saw i always wear a mask. i was told thats why they used to plant it around cemeterys. not to ward off demons but to keep out livestock. the seeds in the beries are poisenous i think but not the fruit. this is just what i have picked up over the years. maybe not 100% right but i dont think its too far off.:001_smile:

Freshly cut yew is toxic to any animal with a basic digestive system ie horses and cows etc but i think this is just the foliage IRR.

just looked it up in wikipidia. everything is poisinios except the jelly bit of the fruit, the cemetry bit with the livestock isnt 100%. have a look its pretty interesting:001_smile:one thing is for sure , you dont want it on your salad:sad:

lol too right!!yeah yew is very toxic, sheep die within hours of consuming yew brush,i quite enjoy a mouthfall of yew dust its cleansing, lol wen uve got the wood in front of you and no masks to hand u just crack on. well i do,and i put some vegetable oil on the fire place and it looks great i like other oils but veggie oil didnt make it shine to much just brought out the grain a bit so its still totally rustic, and any ideas on thing for me to try and make would be much appreciated, maybe we should have a fire place competition on here .or not?

I remember a mate of mine urging me to eat the jelly bits when we were cutting a big yew hedge and I can remember thinking "Is he winding me up?" Decided to just go for it. The Jelly is really sweet and not bad at all!! Like you said though, NOT the seed!!!:saint:
