Er yes it does! Whatever the plate says is what you can carry, no physical changes to the vehicle but if you downplate it and then load it up to 7.5 tonnes you will be in trouble if you get weighed!

 

This is bang on, I remember when folks used to down plate from 10 to 7.5. the whole truck was built slightly heavier so you end up compromising the carrying capacity. Some of these downplated trucks depending on body type could only carry 2 ton.
