Chain Oil Feed

Hi Guys,

Just joined & wondered if anyone knows why my chain oil delivery system won't work. It's a Ryobi pcn 4545 (yeah, I know that NOW):001_tongue: Thing is, the chain is bone dry. I can find advice on everything else in the manual, but not how the oiler works.

Is it a drip feed, or as I suspect, a pump feed? It fired oil like a good 'un when I bought it but not now. I tried poking the grommet with narrow wire but to no avail. The grommet won't come out easily & I don't want to force it out till I know what I'm letting myself in for. Saw works fine but oiler lets it down. Any ideas please?

cheers, treetop.

Try cleaning the oil tank out with petrol and even runnign it briefly with fuel in the oil tank. That might clean it out and help the flow. Also runnier oil might be better. Have you changed brands recently?

Sometimes an air line can be used to clean it out but care needs to be taken not to blow off filters etc that are located in the tank. I don't know the Ryobi saws so don't know the exact configuration.

Thanks for that,I'll give it a try when I get the chance. Some oil does seep out, but not enough to do anything useful. So your idea of a blockage further back could be the answer. Still the same oil but can't think of the brand for the life of me.

Thanks again.

like rupe says, clean out the tank first. if you havent been wiping the crap away before refilling it will have built up, secondly i would take the filter off the tube inside and give it a blow. you will need a hooky bit of wire and a wee pair of mole grips as its pretty footery, be prepared to make an ass of this and go mad:scared1:i take it you have cleaned the bar!! dont know much about ryobi, but if has served you well up to now, thats fine but personally i would start saving some pennies and go and see your local saw dealer. if you then post a thread asking which is better. stihl or husky then i will never talk to you again:001_tongue:(you will soon realise why)

Thanks again Guys,

So which IS better Steve? :001_tongue: Best not go there eh?:001_smile:

Just refilled the tank on Sunday afternoon too. Good news is that is the last of that particular oil so I'll be able to get another brand, any suggestions? or will I just have to try different ones till I find one that does a good job?

I do actually like the saw, it has served me well. I will save me pennies & get a real saw one day:001_smile:

Aawww Frank, and you a fellow Yorkshireman at that. How could you? I feel sooooo violated:001_tongue: I know what you mean though mate, you have to pay a lot more to get the real good stuff.

Shreks wee bro. Nice one mate, made me chuckle:001_smile:

I'll try to get a look at it today, miserable wet day but I'm used to that as I work mostly outside anyway.
