Just got a quote back from wilsons today for a roof mount , do you think it is worth spending the extra £3500 for a front mounted pump or not ?

I will only use it for feeding a chipper probably 2 days a week, they are full days but I am lifting light weight timber , any thoughts please

No spend the money on a decent trailer to put timber in, t160 never had any probe with overheating even when mulching and stacking at the same time just running off the standard pump and it'll render front links and pto useless, I think.

How are they going to do it?

PTO pump or a hydraulic pump?

For a 560TL i'd be inclined not to bother. For 570 and 580 I'd be considering it. Does it have an additional radiator for the hydraulic circuit as well? The valtra's pump is capable of running the crane very smoothly. Although i think at the 40 l/m that it puts out you will have some issues combining multiple actions. Hence where the tank will come in very handy.

My real issues is will it provide as much weight as a set of weights? I think it could well do if the tank is big enough and strong enough ( as they can be easy to give a tap to when putting the grapple away!)

What tractor will you put it 6000 series/8000 series valmet or a shiney new T series valtra?

All I can say is that I had a front mounted pump on my old County as the original 1974 Ford pump certainly wasn't up to the job on the original crane.

Modern tractors have two and three pumps in line as standard today but perhaps a dedicated pump would offer a faster flow and the spin off would be better crane speed plus the tractor could work other things such as a slewing drawbar on its integral system.

The biggest plus in a front mounted pump would be that the oil system is kept separate from anything else. If disaster struck you can still use the tractor.

The crane and guarding is 21k+vat isn't it?

I think you'll be ok without it. The real plus side is that with the tank and pto the who system is sealed so if you break something its only leaking crane hydraulic. Not the hydraulic that runs your brakes and power steering.

Its not on a lot of the ones they sell so that must tell you something. I've only seen two botex cranes with tanks on. One looked like a JAKE tank on the front and the other was one for a botex keto head combo.
