Being a twin, there should be two coils. If one packs up it may just run on one cylinder, but not well. It does help with diagnosis though.

Will need the full engine numbers, either on here or by PM to identify the coil.

the coil has two HT leads coming off it, there is no seperate electrical feeds to it, only the kill wire coming off which runs to ground, the coil is mounted on the side of the flywheel with only a few thou clearance and everything else has been checked, as I said earlier this thing is ancient!!!!

Yup, onecoil sounds right come to think of it. Supplies a spark to both cyls at the same time as it is a horizontal engine ( lost spark principle) . This wont work on later V twins which must have 2 coils.

Anyway, have you tried running without the kill wire. That will take all wiring faults out of the equation and leave just the coil. If it runs without the kill wire then the coil is Ok.

kill wire was not connected, (got to short it to the casing to stop the engine, old school style), motor was running, broke a drive belt, then wouldnt start, usual checks gone through, and only one showing up is no spark when engine is turned over....therfore must be the coil pack, its got compresion, its getting fuel(good fuel), just no sparkjust trying to source best place to get one

When you changed the drive belt did you disturb the interlock switch that stops you starting it if the blades are engaged ?
