Yew stem for sale in Essex

The tree has been there for hundreds of years. The owner hasn't. The problem is clearly the owner, and perhaps they need to be removed instead?

Yes I know the tree well, it would be a great shame if it were to go,but the owner has been after removal for quite a while.

We had a similar problem.

Quite intractable.

Until I suggested installing a set of tasteful 1.0m high metal railings in about a 3.0m dia circle with an included 200mm high metal strip around the bottom to retain bark mulch.

In this case surely a "sit-a-pon" low surrounding wall should do the same?

But absolutly definately the tree deserves to be retained.

No TPO on this tree and not in a conservation area . My boss had a word with the tree officer and he said it would be a shame but if the guy wants a fell then that's his choice . I will speak to the other tree officer on Monday and ask if there is anything that could be done

We are the most unlikely bunch of tree huggers, given that we cut them down for a living.

 

Would be quite a funny human interest story for the local press - "Tree fellers turned tree huggers - local tree surgeons unite together to save ancient Yew tree"

If you search using Google Street map for the address mentioned earlier you can see what appears to be the yew tree in question very close to thatched cottage.

It's a lovely little tree when you look at it on street view. If the owners were that desperate, it could just be reduced a touch?
