Thing to remember that whilst you guys are experienced in these matters your clients aren't and may only know what other people have told them (right or wrong).

Merely pointing out that the quoted cost of that type of removal would be £x with tree or £x without. Point out that the labour, machinery etc costs considerably more than the value of the wood.

I don't think sarcasm or put downs is a particularly professional response nor is it likely to gain customers. Whereas an informative response politely delivered may get a response and future business.

Very well put.

Won't know if you reply sarcastically or rudely. They may sound cheeky but more likely ill-informed.

True.

The fist dozen or so of these types of calls did got the nice professional and polite reply. But to be honest it kinda brakes you down and after that the rest of them do get to hear a bit of my sarcastic and cheek side.http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/images/smiliesmodern/001_tongue.gif

I imagine that for a lot of people not in the know its little more than an extension of what they already do in their gardens; pruning, cutting back etc. They don't know that there are multiple certificates, licenses and expensive equipment needed. Its merely a case of "thats a bit much for me" and someone tells them that someone they know knows someone who's mate got a tree removed for just the wood.
