Very annoyed with myself today, put freshly sharpened gaffs into above mentioned rope, about 1.5m from splice

 

Is it worth getting someone to splice it or is now tow rope ?

 

It's only about 5 weeks old, with splice at one end

 

Grrrr !!

Good idea about other end , would probably get both done

 

Yes bowline would work but must admit like the neatness from the spliced termination

Indeed. I was assuming that the OP would cut the original one off, and I agree, you don't really want 2 eyes.

Check out the splicing forum mate.

 

My main reasons for not having both ends spliced would be that I only use one end anyway, and you wouldn't be able to 'milk' your rope if it needs it.

 

I'm pretty sure some hardware needs a blank end to feed into it as well.
