In a small practical industry like arb, everyone seems to know everyone and large HR departments are rarities, it seems CV's are not really relative.

Do you rate a CV?

Do you read CV's or is a letter/email/phone call more important?

If you do value CV, if so what do you look for in a CV?

Any particular CV Gripes (Too many pages/pictures etc)

Looking for advice, from an employer / manager’s perspective.

I'm not too interested in a cv for a cutter or climber, a trial day will tell me everything I need to know.

Maybe more applicable at surveyor/consultant level?

I can't see how a CV would be relevant to most of the industry. Perhaps if I was applying for a job such as a team leader in a large company working in the commercial sector, then it may be more applicable.

I think a CV is definitely relevant for a consultant position.

Having a good technical knowledge of arboriculture is one thing (essential) but also useless if you are not able to successfully communicate. A CV shows a prospective employer that you are able to communicate clearly.

There's a skill to concisely summing up all your skills and experience on two sides of A4 - not dissimilar to the skill needed to write a good tree report.

I'd agree that CVs are unnecessary for a cutting job though.
