broken bones

Hi Mikey, good luck with your recovery, I,v had broken thumb, broken elbow, broken wrist which had metal plates put in, prolapsed vertebrata, think thats how is spelt, shrapnel, CP knee in both but not at the same time, one would get better while the good one would get worse, lost the use of my legs for about 4 weeks, that was the lowest point ever, and lots of other things , mewled by a dog as a child, and I don't know why ,maybe its because I'm tasty, been bitten and needed stitches on 3 occasions by other dogs, had lots of other stitches too, nose broke, cheek bone and ribs, Not all at the same time but over many years of having fun, I think its the price you pay, you will soon get better and forget about this low point in your life, after all there are lots who are far worse off.

Answers to the name of Lucky:001_smile: Sorry. It just reminded me of that old joke. Can't match that but have an idea how you feel at times with my broken vertabrae, wrist, finger and general wear.

To the original poster; get well.

Not broken any vertebra and hope never to do so. Amongst other breaks but pertinent to your situation - in my teens I broke an ankle once and approx. 5mths later, smashed the same ankle, the foot & the base of the same leg.

2nd_plaster 8wks, crutches 6wks, walking sticks 2yrs.

They said if I'd stopped growing, they've pinned it but I'd be in and out of hospital for next few years. So ankle lost some mobility but it causes me no problems, other than that I can't really run much.

Cheers guys,

Wow Jesse been in the wars. I got 6 titanium rods and several screws holding the back together they also found a broken rib from a couple of years ago quite close to puncturing lung. Think it was the classic bail out the back of chip box onto the jockey wheel.

Tally of 15 breaks on the nose, a little twisted now.

The feet are the worst part it's silly but you don't realise how much you take them for granted, I spent a bit of time in hospital with guys far worse than myself and the mindset is the hardest part to conquer.

As for physio Rossy they were supposed to provide it from day 1 needless to say none received. I'll be looking into private tomorrow. Do you get trouble with the ankle in colder weather?? Was spiking any easier??

To be honest I haven't spiked anything since my return to climbing but in the cold I get a persistent dull ache that feels like its coming from really deep within the joint, it's not painful really just uncomfortable. I believe it's called barometric sensitivity, that's that it said on my medical report. The private physio made all the difference with mine I believe. The best decision I've ever made.

Hi all,

Long story short, came out a second story window Feb 15th and fell about 35ft onto concrete.

I broke my right heel into 3 different pieces, left ankle shot into top of foot and splintered, my back L2 broke a corner off and L3 squashed.

Doctors said if it wasn't for my work boots (god bless Haix) i'd of lost feet completely. With the extent of damage I was told that I probably wouldn't walk again.

3 months later and a few bits of metal i'm getting about on crutches :001_smile:

Just wondered if anyone else has had similar injuries or known anyone who has that's got back into climbing??

Any feedback would be appreciated,

Mikey D

I have no left shoulder , just a spike with a metal ball on the end . Also my right leg was busted just above the knee and is held together with a box of screws through a plate . All this courtesy of a myopic woman in a Renault Megan . I have a job wearing a pair of thick socks let alone climb !!

Hi I fell 25 feet through a roof onto a concrete floor 25 years ago, crushed lumber 1,2 and 3 plus chipped a corner of the last bone in my neck.

I also have broken my left femur and right leg below my knee !!

Took me about 2 years to get going again and have suffered ever since but just don't give in to it

I had a mate stump grinding in jeans luckily he moved to see what was bouncing the head about as a lump of cast iron shot through the guard went between his legs and through a tonne bag of sand!!
