Rock climbing shoes for tree climbing

Has anyone used rock climbing shoes for rec climbing?

I am finding the more I climb the less I sitback into my line and the more i free climb as such. for example when limb walking out my line in 95% taught but im not using it as support just is the incase I slip, and the same when walking back in. No weight on my line just tending the slack, if I do loose my balance I can just sitback into my line and everything is ok. so having more feeling through my feet well help me feel my way around the tree? :001_smile:

I understand i wont be able to jam my feet in forks etc.. just wondering if anyone has tryed it:001_smile:

i have often wondered about that Arran.....especially on smooth barked trees like Beech and Plane...

Would be wicked on smooth barked trees. Im turning all hippy but you would really be able to feel your way around the tree, especially on nice long limbwalks with nothing to hold on to and its all about balancing :001_smile:

Barefoot is the way forward mate. Smooth barked trees it gives you such a connection.

I haven't tried but I can see rock shoes being a bit painful if you're in the tree too long in them, they're not the most comfortable thing at the best of times!

Instead of rock climbing shoes look at a compromise. i.e. approach boots or similar. Scapa's are good. I use the Aku Cresta's. Very comfy, lighter than chainsaw boots and better grip bit still with a bit of support for your foot and ankles.
