Strimmer problem

Good day, got given this Kawasaki strimmer yesterday (Its an old TG 24). Hadn't run for a few seasons, but the fuel lines and tank had been emptied out before it was decommissioned. I put fresh 2 stroke juice in her, a new fuel filter and spark plug.

 

It started after a bit, and ran well on choke, but the problem is she seems to die everytime I kill the choke and throttle it up?

 

There's a throttle setting beside the trigger, which sets at about 50% rev's. If I engage this and leave the choke on its cuts away no problems. But as soon as I release the setting and give it a bit more welly it also dies.

 

No problems restarting on any occasion today either. Just wondering if anyones knows what these symptoms might suggest, and whether or not it could be fixable?:thumbup1:

I've got a Kawasaki with exactly the same problem.

 

I've moved away from carb as I've tried another carb on it and the problem goes away.

 

The next move for me is to strip is down and check the rings and piston out. But this might not be your problem.

 

My one is a very different model to yours unless someone has used a different carb on yours.

It will be jets. There isn't any high low screws unless someone has changed it.

 

Strip it down and give it a clean. Chances are its crap in the jets causing not enough fuel to travel at full throttle. And it quitting.

Had a few of these - decent small machines, the carbs on the ones I had were slide valves so the mix is adjusted by the needle height in the slide valve - bit like the carbs on motorcycles.

 

I would personally just strip the carb down and give it a good clean as a starting point. If the engine won't pull past mid revs then it is either lacking fuel or too much air - possible air leak.

 

Try running without an air filter and see if it makes it better of worse - if it makes it worse then you are running lean.

 

Other than that - one I had, had a bad plug cap that would give you a nasty nip if you touched it!

Thanks easy lift - Didn't notice a kink when I changed the fuel filter, but hadn't thought of it until you mentioned so i'll look again. Good call.

 

Just when you think you have trouble shot everything the first time something simple sticks it's head up to be thumped:sneaky2:. You will get it sorted one way or another.
