first photo is from google map where I will be working

Its the bottom road in the photo I need to winch them onto

The top road is only a muddy track not fit for my van so I have been told

Second photo is an idea I had; do you think it will work?

Have used the top one, and they are fine for small stuff but not much cable length. If you can afford it get a lug all winch they are pricey but great winches mine was about £350. Another good winch for the money is a jet winch which is a copy of a turfir. I have had this for four years and has never let me down and has pulled some heavy timber, got mine from landmark trading. And don't forget some decent strops as well.
Well the one on the top ive used similar in Sweden for winching some decent size spruce over with a static line for the rope,Never had any problems, obviously lighter then a Steel Tifor winch and cant do anywhere the same sort of work but for basic stuff fine i think.

Dose it have gears on it or is it just one speed

the first winch in your link might move the log if it wasnt too big but only about 8ft at a time as it has a very short cable.

your diagram could work but you would need a pulley on the anchor point tree, and good comunication with the driver.

if you can get the pulley higher up the tree then will lift the log as it pulls.

how big is the log?? any obstructions on the ground increase the forces loads.

the boat winches in your link wouldnt be siutable.
