Petzl Sequoia Modifications

I understand I am a beginner with this compared to some of you chaps, but I was always taught keep it simple. The more items included complicate things and also more things to go wrong.

Thanks Marc, I'll look that up, just got back from a mornings climbing and can report that all worked well, I have stuck with the small red rigging plate on the bridge and kept the pear maillons, they increase the effective length of the bridge a bit but it works well (for my setup) and I felt a lot more comfortable!

I have a "standard" sequoia, and I must ask, with yours having that rigging plate on it, does it not pendulum straight into your nuts if you stand up on a branch?

 

Guess it will depend on the length of swing (both the plate and your nuts) but it does look like it could catch you unawares:scared1:

Iv been climbing for 20 years plus, keep it simple, it looks over complicated and bulky , it looks like theres more to go wrong imo.

I alway worry more about the ID as that is quite heavy!

Honestly though its not really an issue, it weighs about the same as a carab.

Ok i can see that if this is just a reccy climb and if yo like your gadgets n toys etc to play with thats within your own right but try this as a working climbing set up. assembling and disassembling. it just wouldnt work. if you dont trust your petzl then go for a harness that has side dees with webbing for a bridge and if you dont want to use that then tree climbing just isnt for you i guess.

Why are you guys trying to concince Steve he need to set up as a 'working climber' when so clearly hes not.

Ive never seen such a effort to convince someone they were wrong when they were not.

More than half the people on this site are full of hot air Steve, take that into account, if by the sixth page into the thread they still havent figured out that your not a 'working climber' then is their 'advice' really to be taken into account, they cant even read and comprehend simple english.

They just want to stuff their opinion down your throat so they can prove themselves as still being in the right, and can go on firm in the belief they have righted the wrongs in the climbing world....once again.

What so many of them fail to recognise is the basic tenet that what is 'good' for me, might not be the same 'good' for you.

Thats the beauty of tree climbing, theres many GOOD ways to do ONE thing.

Theres many ways to climb one tree, there more than one way to rig it as well, so just because someone has done it a certain way for twenty years doesnt make it the 'right way', it simply makes it the way they do it.

I see you have a thick skin and seem to be taking it all in stride, thats good, keep the thick skin you'll need it if you want to hoe you own row.
