Woodland managment for beginers

We have some woodland that we would like to tidy up and bring into managment can anyone recommend a book for a beginer explaining from scratch about woodland managment kinda a idiots guide lol somthing with tree species and plenty of pictures

Have a go through a load of these, and one you have fully digested them then think about what your going to do, think about getting an FC approved management plan (grants available for doing this, or use the FC template and do your own plan so you know what your trying to acheive) I would say if you have just got the woodland dont do anything for the first year other than walk around it a lot as your view on things will change over the course of a year interms of the management.

the FC in the South East of England used to do a short booklet aimed at new woodland owners called "so you own a woodland" an no nonsense first steps guide aimed at beginners. theres some good books listed above but theres also a lot of stuff to take in that you just dont need to know as a beginner. there's also no rush.

 

jo ellis wrote the book(let) google it... or email the forest services office at bucks horn oak, surrey. someone there may be able to help.
