What do you forestry folks wear in the WET?

Just wondering what you recommend in terms of wet gear. Im only a firewood cutter but have taken on a big job which requires me to put in a lot more time and as I work all week at another job it means I have to work every weekend whether it is raining or dry.

I have never worn any PPE clothing other than boots and helmet but I'm thinking about getting some trousers and maybe a jacket but If I was going to pay the kind of money I have seen some of these things advertised I would have to be waterproof gear. Trousers would be my first buy.

You thought bout chaps in stead of trousers? as with all kit ya get what ya pay for maybe look at good used kit if your not gonna work the hell outta it.

Being wet is hell but ya get used to it

I've yet to find a jacket I find comfortable to go felling in, so find the best thing is to just take plenty of spare top layers and change them each time you stop for a cuppa if need be.

As far as I know there aren't any waterproof saw kegs available any more. Once you've got a layer of sap down the fronts they tend to keep water out for a good while anyway. Usually by the time it's soaked through me kegs I've had enough and want to go home anyway.

I generally cut a lot of softwood, so the trousers get a good coating of rosin which waterproofs them quite well, I then add a flexothane type jacket to the top half and add a needle guard to the back of the helmet (stops the water dripping down your neck). When its wet and you've got the waterproofs on you tend to get wet from the inside out as you sweat that much more, so unless it's properly raining hard I often just put up with it. You can get expensive breathable waterproofs, but I'm not going to spend that money on something good to drag it through all the brambles and brash in the wood.

Probably not much help that, but most folk I know are pretty much the same.

Not sure about forestry, but climbing or working on the ground suck when it's wet..... Nothing worse that 45metres of soggy rope and sodden chainsaw trousers

I have a very light weight gortex over jacket, keeps me bone dry! But as others have said get pretty sweaty :/

Oh buddy ain't what ya said the truth lol............I'll add if ya buy a jacket the keep everything out well you'll sweat your cahones of as it keeps everything in to lol and waterproof pants to me anyway you'll be wetter inside them than outside them lol

Hence i said chaps as bit of air circulation lol

but all in all skin is waterproof and humans don't melt ......go with what ya got buddy it's a weekend thing not a full time gig so spending will only drop your profit and enjoyment and you'll still get wet.....trust me on that lol
