Those who hate Mrs T seem to think that those that don't think she was a Saint, most don't, they know she had her faults, but she was a true conviction politician and did things that needed doing.

So she gave the unions a damn good hiding? They were only trying to stick up for the working man (admittedly in a far too dogmatic fashion), compromise on both sides would have kept this country great, but history is always written by the victors

No they weren't thats the point. Skargill tried to come across as a man of the people but he was a power hungry thug.

 

Many of the unions operates on fear and bullying tactics. They'd call a strike for things we these days would laugh at. At rover they called a walk out almost weekly. Once and you'll laugh at this. They walked out because there were no teabags.

 

Even sub contractors would be forced to down tools if there was a walk out and to get jobs they had to bribe not the owners or managers but the union rep.

 

British business and industry was being driven into the ground by work shy shop stewards and bullies. A bit like disruptive kid in class no body can do anything while they are there.

I come from a family with strong military background. My dad was intelligence at the time and gave briefings as the only sargeant since the second world war to be asked to downing street. On the basis of that briefing he went to the falklands and we didn't see him for nearly a year.

 

She cried in that briefing. She knew she was going to make a decision that would end in dead british soldiers.

 

He lost many friends and colleagues down there and never blamed her.

 

When the time came that there was increasing risk of war with iraq he briefed her again but by now as his role in jsis. She listened to advice from all ranks before making her decision and sticking to it.

 

Then john major arrived useless and indecisive and unemotional sending soldiers to die

Although my opinion of Mrs T differs from yours I would agree that you haven't spoken out of turn and would defend your post.

Although I think that rejoicing in the death of someone simply because you dislike their politics is low, I don't think that anyone should change their opinion of someone jut because they're dead.

You don't like her, fair enough.

Seems though that you've enough decency to respect the dead irrespective of their party politics so Geoff was perhaps a little harsh in that respect....
