Re-spacing

Re-spacing; clearing saw removal of re-gen spruce to achieve "re-spacing" and also removal of wolf trees (double leaders). On dartmoor it is a pig amongst the granite.

Re-spacing: a word I've hardly heard since the 1980's. Back then (to us) it meant the thinning of Sitka spruce. Trees were cut at the base and left, regardless of whether or not they fell to ground level. Stumps were treated with urea. Felling was basically the removal of weak trees, double stemmed trees etc.

Naf all, although first thinnings tend to be clearing out racks, the re-spacing is random, down to the cutters judgment. The wood is a mix of natural re-gen, and planted spruce, hence the random bit.

I will post some pictures when i am next there.
