GoPro more like OhNo

Well it's my birthday today and after the initial jubilant repentance of my new GoPro Hero 3. I am now on a big time low. After a few hours trying to update my BRAND NEW GoPro to no avail. I came to terms that maybe I should just use it as it was intended with no new update.

Well, wish I hadn't the footage is skippy to say the least. The sound and picture are so far out of sync I thought that someone had spiked my Cheerios.

Joking aside I had done my research and thought the drift was the helmet cam for me, but due to the large following of GoPro users on Arbtalk I went for the Hero 3.

Reckon I must of gotten a bad one, after going on a couple of forums I have since discovered I am most deffantly not the only one.

I have now in a height of anger packed the camera back up and will now be wanting a refund.

Hopefully the Drift will be better, can't see how it could possibly be worse than the OhNo!

I went with the drift hd 1080p, got a deal on a new one from 200 to 135. Absolutely love it:biggrin: not as many attachments as a go pro but you can easily buy them. Done a few videos with it and put them on here, working on a couple more too.

Can't go wrong with it

What are you editing it with Rob?

Are you always filming on 1080?

Do you use the remote?

That's good to hear. Even though I had the gopro for less than a day I found it so woeful to use. I have never had a helmet cam and yet I missed not having a screen. I mean what else can you take pics and vids and not preview what you have just taken?

I was a mug to myself and not sticking with my guns and going for the drift. I have obviously got one of the many sub standard gopros so can not say they are all rubbish as if it had of updated and the video playback not been skittish then I would of been happy.

As it stands the one i am sending back it useless and I shall NEVER be buying from company OhNo again.

At the moment David, windows movie maker as that's all my laptop can handle (even then still takes ages). I really need a new laptop but that can wait

I don't always film with 1080p, the majority of the time, if I'm doing treework, I will buy recently filmed a few outdoor bike rides on 720 (these are the ones I'm currently editing) and they look ok, bar the little bit of shake from my temporary fastening to the bike frame (I used a gorilla grip).

I think, depending on what you are watching it on, depends on what you need to film it in. YouTube/web/computer screen, 720 is ample. Tv or more, 1080 is the way to go.

The remote I use if the camera is on my helmet, it fits nice in my accessible pocket, worn it on the wrist once but didn't get on with it. I know a few people who have struggled with the beep for record on and off but I haven't.

Also, if speaking is recommended to get the external mic, I haven't and tried to speak on a video on the bike the other day and all you could here was the wind and the rattle of the vibrate on the frame. Chainsaws are fine as they're loud:biggrin:

Hope that helps

Haratio it could be that your computer may not have enough RAM to run the footage if it was filmed at 1080?

We went for the Drift ghost hd after comparing the two.

.

Just tried it on 920 30fps and result it working thanks:thumbup:

So I shall scrap the update and use it as normal saving cocking about getting a refund still wish I had a drift though:thumbup1:

Beat me to it david, i had the same problem with my old laptop, soon as i got new imac it runs perfect. You can buy a led screen for the gopro i wouldnt recomend it though as the battary life is shocking as it is. I have the big extra battary pack attached to the back of mine just about gets through the day.

It would be worth getting a Wasabi charger for your GP3. Look on Amazon for £30 you get the charger and 2 batteries that last longer than GPs own. Charging this way instead of with PC or mac USB saves some problems. Use a card reader too. Basically, don't connect it to your PC or mac. Don't format the card in the camera after an update either, delete files through a card reader.
