tree officers

I think for the most part we only see the side of the coin that affects us. As individuals we may slate the boss, the staff and the TO's. Thanks to forums such as this one perhaps we just maybe able to get a glimpse of the other perspective, and learn something new from that. Talking to people on here, such as Tony Sorensen, has helped me no end to understand some of the technicalities of the TOs job, which helps when I'm trying to put together a tpo application.

I'm lucky I think in that i have never had to question the experience or integrity of any of the TOs I've rubbed up against. The relationship surly requires mutual lack of knowledge for it to work. I'm a typical man with my knowledge either being fantastically wide and shallow or anally focused and deep.

me and my work partner between us have 55 years of climbing exprences between us and deal with many tree offericers as most of our work is street trees these days, not saying what council it was but the tree officers was out of order as he ask us to do something that would have put the groundmen lives at risk, but this tree officer was a postman for 20 years before he become a tree officer to the council and had been in that post for approx a year. had another in south london that couldnt tell the difference between a ash and plane,

Bloody hell ! In London ? An Ash has leafs an twigs-A plane has wings an engines-They go overhead alll day! Whats up with the guy?

I went from college to being a tree officer back in 1989. The job is not as easy as it sounds. Dealing with all sorts of views from members of the public(many of which were crackpots) including councillors that dont have a clue but want re-elected so theyd flog their granny to get back in office. They have the same view as most of you and groan at cowboy jobs. You guys can walk away from jobs they cant and the public know their rights (citizen charters etc)

If I came across another tree professional I discussed the tree job with them and came to a concensus of opinion of what was required then move forward to grant permission.

fact of the matter is I loved the job but went self employed in 1998. Id love to go back to those days but life is sweeter in my chosen location.
