No worries matt! The ox drove was enjoyable (apart from the scratches!!)

Hi Mat - Re the picture of the white Discovery in the muddy water - I hope that is the lane itself. Just it looks from the photo that the Disco behind is on the lane and about to drive along the ruts behind the stuck Discovery. It looks as though people in the past have turned off the designated track to go through the water.

Hard to say on that section at chittern down. The water splash is fairly central to the trees, and the ruts to the side appear to actually be the 'new line' as it were.

The White disco is on the definative line but the disco behind is also on the definnative line but is going around the puddle via the well worn rutted "escape route". There are several points on the plain where there are deep puddles and people have gone a safer route and thus caused more ruts. The only way it can be stopped is if the water filled holes are filled with stone and drainage ditches added.
