home insurance paying for tree work?

hi all, i recently dismantled a cherry tree for a private customer, who asked me to take a look at a couple of lime trees he had.

one looked fairly knackered to me, heaps of its roots had been dug out to make way for car parking and it looked in poor health all round.

the other had a large limb with quite severe included bark that looked to me to need removed.

the client told me that he had called his home insurance company and they had told him that they wouldn't pay for the work until the trees had failed!!

these trees were in his back garden with targets everywhere

my question is, would the insurance company pay for the work if these trees were comdemned by a consultant/ someone more learned than myself??

What work were the insurance going to pay for until he told them about the trees?

The insurance will probably cancel any part of his policy that has damage to property through tree failure until he has them removed or proper consultant report saying otherwise.

Its the home owners duty to maintain his trees not the insurance companies.

Spot on.

Why people think lack of maintainence of their trees is the fault of their insurance company I don't know.

Infact if the trees did fail and an assessor who knew is stuff came out, he would ask for a maintainance record of the trees and refuse to pay out if lack of maintainance was the contirbuting factor

ahh, i see. the insurance company had told him that they would pay for the clear up if/when they did fail. i don't think he had the money to pay for it. they were quite big trees and a lot of work.

i suppose it's his fault for spending all his money on such a big house!!

I've dealt with a quite a few insurance jobs over the years and tbh quite a lot wont pay for the clean up they will only pay to make it safe or remove it from say a fence or wall that has been damaged.

One job the other year a 80ft lombardy came down across four gardens. the insurance would only pay to removed the stump and a section of trunk so that the fence could be rapaired, they werent interested in anybody eles's garden fence or shed!

we did one that had split the tree half over the garage the other was still standing the insurance would only pay for what had fallen said its down to the tree owner

We had hig horse chestnut that split out leaving half a tree, the insurance company told the client that they were only willing to pay to clear up the bit on the deck.. I worded the quote and invoice, clear up and make safe so the insurance would pay for the whole job. I didn't mention that making safe meant felling the rest of the tree. I don't think this was dishonest...
