Poplars from Bucket Truck

Nice vid of someone in Ontario doing a couple of Poplar removals from a bucket truck, worth a watch. There's couple of times where the vid highlights some of the work positioning issues when rigging from a bucket/MEWP, but this guy knows what he's doing regardless -

You and I both know what it's like rigging from a bucket Tim. Number 1 rule is to not touch the bucket with wood.

ever notice the pull line on the vertical section at 2.38 in this Sherbrook vid? looks like it was re-directed higher up through a nearby tree? either that or the person pulling it over is standing about 3 miles away

 

probably the cleverest and best use of an aerial platform you'll ever see

not sure how the pre-rigging really saved time in the second vid when surely with the mewp and the crane it would take the same amount of time to cut and lower it straight to the chipper using the crane as to cut it all and hang it and then go back to each one and crane them off?

I'm guessing that those tops would have been too high for the crane they had to have picked them off without shock loading the boom. The pre-rigging brought them down low enough to be lifted safely by the butts. The remaining tree would then be low enough to crane of in the normal way.

 

Some precise cutting required though felling some of those bits next to the MEWP

Fantastic watching for a laid back sunday morning. Reckon it would have been a tad quicker having all those limbs off and a little lower with the lift point than it would have been to lift them from a high point.
