Hello, I'm 17 years old and am currently doing a levels I have been working with a group of lads copising forests in the local area and have been really enjoying it. I have looked at college courses that would get me all the qualifications I need the only thing it doesn't tell me is how easy is it to get a job and are there many foresters about. Last year my dad applied to be an underkeeper and was told no thanks we have had over 90 applications for one job So don't want to go through all the training and have to compete with 90 other people. Thanks in advance for any replies

If you do decide to go to college to study forestry and you're serious about it, then Newton Rigg College in Cumbria is the place to go. If it is arboriculture that you wish to study, then Merrist Wood is the place. Both highly regarded in their industry Good luck

90 applicants is a low number compared to some of the numbers I have heard of (not forestry thou)

A good work ethic will put you streets ahead of othere applicants.

I offer to do a days work unpaid so the prespective empoyer can see how willing and capable I am.

thanks for all the advice im looking at applying to go to sparsholt as it is close to my home and lots of people i have spoken seem to rate it highly. pretty much all the jobs i have wanted to do have been outdoors and more of a lifestyle than a job so am happy to work long hours and see a job done properly and be able to say i did that. thanks again dan
