Good on ya graham, nice refreshing attitude! I started off like you, and now things are starting to take off! I mostly work alone and to be honest most of my jobs I do involves a silky, its amazing how much work you can get done with one! As most of my jobs are "small" it is just as quick to use a silky and its alot safer and cheaper to run than a chainsaw! Like others have said though they can bite back......! Something for you to think about.....I have a good working relationship with quite a few local arborists and work for them as a groundie when I dont have anything else on, when I get asked to quote for a job that is too big for me to do then I pass it over to the big boys and take a percentage cut for giving them the work, I also get work out of it groundying for them! Might be something to consider.........Anyway, hope it all goes well for ya mate! :)

Someone going out there having a go, and working hard! rather than sitting on their buttocks claiming every benefit under the son bcos there is " no work"

Is to be commended!

Of that's the case you don't have a problem with travellers doing tree work?

It's very difficult to get a job here without tickets, and tickets are expensive. So which comes first? Chicken or egg?

He's doing exactly the right thing, irrespective of what insurance or experience he may or may not have. He's trying to make something of himself and work for a living and for that he has my full support. :thumbup1:

So just to be clear, you support people in the industry who are inexperienced, not insured or have the relevant qualifications?

I wonder if plumbers, electricians or builders would have the same point of view?

If the people in our industry cannot take it seriously why should anyone else?

I bet it's the same in any industry to an extent. Concentrate on pushing and promoting your own good practice and don't stress about what others are doing.

The hard working (yes, some possibly inexperienced) will eventually succeed and the bloggers eventually won't:biggrin:

Yes.

I don't have climbing tickets. I'm quite capable of doing it though.

I don't have CSCS, but I'm still a good 360 driver.

Tickets and insurance just allow you to work to a different level, and it's what everyone goes for eventually if they want to do the nice profitable interesting work. Leave the gypsies to their kind of tree work and the sort of people who employ them. Who cares?

There's no harm in a business starting off doing the basic stuff without tickets to earn the money to afford to pay for tickets, insurance etc.... It's the way it should be done.

Cheer's mate :thumbup1: the way that I look at it is that I had two "option's"

I could either ; a) use all my available "fund's" to go on training course's and get my "ticket's" all the while earning "no money" to pay my bill's e.t.c. and then have no fund's for a truck or tool's and snooker myself !

or ; b) use my "fund's" to buy myself a decent truck and some tool's and to get myself out there earning a few quid to pay my bill's and put some by toward's "training" and ticket's and to also "get a feel for the job" I am well aware and comfortable of what my capabilities are, and thank's to this forum I've had quite a few offer's of help if there are any job's that come up that are beyond my own capabilities :thumbup1:
