Chinese saw

Completely disagree.

Chains do not perform well out of the box. The teeth are half dull and the depth gauges are far too high. It usually takes me 4-6 sharpens (and depth gauge drops) to get the chain to how I like it. Result is a chain that is no less smooth than out the box and I swear at least a third quicker.

With reference to the original poster, you need to learn to sharpen your chain by hand. Grinders have their place for heavily damaged chains, but are no use for day to day sharpening. And dump the Chinese chainsaw - there are many makes of saw that are quite reasonably priced for your needs and a thousand times better than Chinese rubbish. There is a very good video of a genuine Stihl being subjected to industry standard stress tests versus it's Chinese copy. Needless to say, the Chinese saw fell to pieces.

Thanks bud . What I'v been trying to say in my clumsy way .

My old boss had a motorised sharpener and we hated it as it cooked the teeth and this made them difficult to sharpen in the field. His theory was that he couldn't have three chaps scraping files over saws in the morning when there was work to be done! :laugh1:

As my eyes have got worse I find sharpening more and more difficult without a strong pair of glasses. I now have a thing that the file sits in that helps. A mate has bought a motorised sharpener off ebay. Any opinions on these would be welcome

Chains perform much better as they become shorter as less drag on the cutter tooth. As the chain enters the cut it tips over and is at a much flatter angle to the material than when just resting on the bar rails.... Most hot saws/timber sports guys run chains that would be just about ready for the bin...

If that crappy ole chinese piece of junk out performs a main brand saw cc for cc, then theres sommat wrong!
