Wedding Sign Carving

The vertical (can also be horizontal) log sign letters were all chainsaw and no chisel.

I developed the font especially for chainsaw.

 

1. Flatten the face of the log

2. Outline the "block" of letters to a consistent depth (2"??)

3. Bevel from the outside edge of the flat to the 2" cut (under cut the "block" but just a little

4. Finish defining the letter faces

5. Sand the faces smooth and finish.

Now that looks like something I can do! Although, 'finish defining the letter faces' sounds easier than it probably is

Just to show you what I was playing with before so you can have a laugh.... Obviously I know there is a D missing. This is my sort of skill level, all I have is a husquvarna 353 with a 15'' bar!

While you're at it make an extra 'E' then when the event's over put the sign outside your house and pick up some gardening work for the wife or GF

Just thought I'd update and show what I came up with. Not brilliant and I could've spent more time finishing it off, but it has got me a request for at least 2 more from a wedding venue!

Any tips on that? Best wood? Best finish etc? I used a blow torch to blacken it but would that wear off after a while?

Nice job! Only issue I can see is someone adding some more detail to the heart( a large King Ric)!

Yeah the heart isn't the best heart shape, but I ran out if time. At least you knew it was a heart... Just.

They can add what they like to it after they pay!
