Earlier ones were lower geared and although a bit juicy made decent motors for towing and good work horses, later ones (not sure from what year but think somewhere around 07) had higher gears ratios and are frankly crap for towing, the very latest have had the ratios played with again and are apparently much better.

I personally hate using my 09 plate ranger for work, which is mainly towing.

I've got a Mazda 2500 X reg which is sitting over at the in-laws. Before I got my company vehicle, it got used all the time. Great truck, good for towing ( but only plated for 2200kg, IIRC), about average on the mpg among its peers and the only problems I had were an alternator which had to be replaced and the rear suspension (broken leaf spring so I replaced the lot for about £250). Highly recommended based on my experience of the older models. :thumbup1:

Rear spring leafs snapping was a common problem on the older ones when used a lot for towing, something to do with the ammount of flexing and the paint finish of the springs, replacement sorted it out though.

We had an '05 two wheel drive single cab for a while. Great little thing, should never have got rid of it. Looking back I think we 'downgraded'. Ok on juice and could carry a good lump of weight. Quite comfy too.

Love mine to bits, it an 07 plate with massive mud tyres, no problems until recently when it went in to limp mode one moening on the way to work, mechanic suggested that it could be the injectors, which unfortunatley are electronic and would have cost about £2000.00 but thankfully turned out to simply need a new fuel filter. The joys of a modern common rail engine?

Good luck with your in low range I find it really good in mud, but struggles with my plant trailer and Jensen track chipper.
