When an arb/climbing job is posted requiring cscs, are they after just plain cscs operative which allows you entry on to site or because of the climbing aspect down to site H&S do they want a working at height cscs

 

Sounds like a stupid question but I am thinking that with the climbing you have the h&s of working at height covered its just gaining entry to site?

in my experience constructions sites just want to tick the box, we all have basic green cscs cards and never had any issues getting on site.

Thats ok then i have basic cscs, need to apply for card hopefully its still in date

how much is it roughly to get it? I might need one as i have some site work coming up?

off the top of my head, all in about £30-50 ish per person. takes time to get sorted though, you have to do a construction site H&S assessment first. but by rights if you are working on any construction site every member of staff should have one. every site we have been on recently have asked to see ours and probably wouldn't have let us on site without. and they never ask if you have one right up till the moment you arrive to do the work.

£17.50 to do the test and then once you have done the test you then call Cscs and pay for a card which is £36 I think? Then you should get the card within a 3 weeks. Once you have done the test and passed + payed for the card you can go on site with out the card in your hand just show your pass cert and they can log onto Cscs website and see that you have ordered the card.

All in all a pain in the bum but its worth having it. Just get the basic site operative card. But I do think that we (the industry)will need to go and sit the days course with Bali to get the white card

I have recently done the ECS version of the H and S test for a card similar this to access constructions sites. It cost be £40 for the test, and needed about four hours of revision/reading before hand. I now have to apply for the card itself which is probably another £40.

DIg around, A lot of adult education places do CSCS for free IF you sit an adult literacy and numeracy or IT, CV writing type course at the same time, might be worth it if you have a slow week in the diary.

 

They get loads of funding for the Mundane stuff, and put the CSCS ticket in there to try and get bums on seats

Frustrating but CSCS is the holy grail for construction work, it's the first and quite often the only cert developers ask for.

 

IIRC from Sept this year you will need the arb entitlement which is as stated above is through BALI and around £450 per person.
