Ive just orderd a load of alloy planking off servicemetals to build a chipbox for our Mog, each panel will be 2m wide by 2m high- the planking comes in 20cm strips and slots together to give a smooth finish- hope to post pictures of the body build as it progresses

Sorry forgot to add, the GRP panelling we have used is called dry freight- you can buy the alloy edging and finishing strips from both suppliers also- very easy to use a good weekend will see the job done-

Just worked out the weights J.

11mm composite sides and front, with 1.7mm translucent roof panel, but not including alloy edges.

The total weight would be a mere 118kgs.

Looks like thats the one to go for, it will probably need a rubber sheet to line the head board to stop the chipper wearing it out but I have a huge sheet of 6mm rubber

Thanks for the link J.

Dean,

Company in Meltham Mills called equitrek (based just up the road from the tip if you know where that is) specialise in building horse box vans and trailers using the white GRP panels. Might be worth contacting them to see if they could help. I know they fabricate all their own bits (panels, angles corners, doors, etc) so might be interested in a 1 off landie project if you supplied dimensions/drawings. I am sure they won't be the busiest people in the world with the current economic conditions.

Dean, you wont need a rubber sheet( unless you have a rubber fixation:vroam:) the first one we built using GRP, the body is nearly 14 years old now and the chap chips into it with a 18 inch Morbark and looks almost as good as new

On the other hand they might not want their name on a Landy. Dont ask me why, you know what some people are like.....Teehee:laugh1: It might be a different story if youre gonna make a chipbox for youre wheelbarrow......Sorry Dean, Skyhucks barrow joke cracked me up. Only joking bruv.:001_smile:

what about the reinforced perspex that use on bus shelters ect

thats what i use and when we had pickup done at work they calculated weights and that was lightest and strongest

your more than welcome to have a look

it was built by big bodywork specialists and all done with weight in mind

headboard is a formed thin ali to give good strength to weight

sides are removable and we use a full sheet for the roof which we prefer as keeps rain out as rain is very heavy when soaked into chip

the tackle boxes are really good as all kit for 3 men fits in and is all locked away and does not need moving for chipping or tipping and space is not a massive issue as you can not fill it

Other than its on a ldv it works really well as a small truck

Those tackle boxes are good, Joe showed them to me once when he came to the same call out as me once, like you say, it doesn't matter really about the bit of space they take up as it discourages over loading
